JavaOne News: Day 1 📎
- The day started with the "Java Community Breakfast" where Oracle executives answered hard questions under NDA. Summary: Oracle is a large company (thats why some decisions do not always appear logical), which invests a lot into the Java ecosystem.
- NetBeans Community Day was (un)surprisingly well attended. There were 721 pre-registrations. We got many good questions and ran out of t-shirts.
- Weblogic 12.2.1 supports Java EE 7 and Java 8
- Java EE 7 adoption is great (according to dzone survey).
- Java is open source therefore its hard to hide any features. For that reason the JavaOne Keynote just couldn't reveal any big announcements. Project Valhalla and Panama were mentioned as last year. Scott McNealy's virtual appearance was great and remembered me at the old Sun JavaOne days. Se my twitter @AdamBien stream for pictures and slide snapshots.
- Oracle announced Java SE cloud. You can package, deploy java applications to Docker containers. The focus is on usability and simplicity.
- My "Building Nanoservices with Java EE and Java 8" session was well attended (750 pre-enrollments), and I got so many questions, that I didn't managed to implement any reasonable nano service :-). I will fix that tomorrow in the session "From Macro to Micro(Services) and Back: Onstage Hacking with Java EE 7". There will be no slides and also no questions allowed. In the BOF1849 right after the session in the same room "Most Popular Java (EE) Q&A: Airhacks.tv Live" at 19:00 - 19:45 you can ask as many questions as you like. You can start to ask now: https://gist.github.com/AdamBien/69b6268ea48d2c65536f.
- The traditional GlassFish / NetBeans party was great again. It is a traditional event at Thirst Bear. I had interesting discussions with developers from all over the world. It was nice to chat with Oracle engineers, payara server committers and even afterburner.fx users.
